Department of English organizes a webinar on “Teaching and Assessing Literature Online: A Preamble”

 

The Department of English, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) successfully organized a webinar titled “Teaching and Assessing Literature Online: A Preamble” on Saturday, 11 July, 2020, at 8.00 p.m. The session was held on Zoom video platform. The event was conducted by Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Haque, a faculty member of the Department of English, St. John's University, New York. All the faculty of the English Department, UAP joined the session. The webinar was held to provide some valuable insights on how toease the online teaching and learning process in the ongoing“Spring 2020” semester.

In the webinar, Dr. Haque talked about the differences among the distant learning, online learning and onsite learning. He discussed what a teacher could do when he/she switched from a physical setting to a virtual setting. To present his ideas vividly, Professor Haque utilized PowerPoint slides to differentiate between an in-person classroom syllabus and an online syllabus for this current situation. The resource person put emphasis on a well-defined assessment system and grading procedure while teaching online. He reminded the educators to act as community builders in order to keep the students engaged in a virtual setting. Moreover, he encouraged the teachers to make the students familiar with the facts about plagiarism in an online platform.After the discussion, Dr. Haque answered to the queries of the participants. Ms. Arjumand Ara, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of English, UAP, highlighted the importance of the webinar. She wrapped up the event with a vote of thanks.
